The Malaika Kitchen Project
Nutrition meets Cost - For Children with Disability by People with Disability.
Greenthumb Community Based Organization (CBO) is surrounded by communities who are in need of nutritious foods but are unable to access them. Nutritious foods can be easy to access in Nakuru if one knows where to look and has the time to go get them. Many of the people the project wanted to reach were were employed full time and thus, could not access the quality of food they needed. We wanted to be a catalyst for positive change, and to this end, we started the Malaika Kitchen Project in partnership with Cornell University's Institute of Africa Development.
this was a project aimed at procuring and preparing nutritious foods and subsequently selling them at the lowest possible cost to the people employed primarily in the industrial areas.
Here's the Kicker...
This project employs people with various disabilities, who have/had a hard time finding employment, and the proceeds are all channeled towards the Malaika Center for Children with Disability.
