Indigenous vegetables are a rich source of various nutrients. However, their availability is limited and problematic especially during seasons of prolonged absence of rain. However, the youth can take up the responsibility of feeding their community while enhancing their lifestyles and economic capabilities. This can be easily done through irrigating tracts of land and growing the indigenous vegetables on them. This will guarantee a constant supply of these vegetables for the community. Greenthumb CBO is starting this initiative off, with a vegetable project on a .25 acre land in Nakuru. This will serve as a pilot project that will ensure budgeting and planning is ironed out for future expansion an rolling out of similar projects around the county for member youth.
